Finally…
After working in South Florida for the last six years, there are some things you get used to just having. Imagine the shock I suffered when I started work at this new job and found that not only did they not make cafecito… there was not an espresso machine in the entire building. That’s right, folks—they drink coffee the way old midwesterners drink it. Yesterday my wife rectified that by purchasing two Krups espresso machines—one for work and one for home.
Now I can make my entire section of the building smell like Cuban coffee. The smell is likely what turns the making of the coffee into a social event; much as it was at Ultimate Software. Wow… I can even say Ultimate Software on here now without worrying about who sees it. Not that I ever said anything bad about the company but you really don’t want the people you work with reading the things that you write possibly about a day you had at work or a meeting you may have sat through.
So, I like the new job and I like the new people that I am working with but I can’t say I don’t miss the social interaction I had at 9 a.m. and approximately 2 p.m. each day while we gathered in the hall and AJ whipped the sugar/coffee into espumita. I am pretty sure there will be some curiosity surrounding the noise and smell eminating from my corner of the building and I will have that kind of interaction again. Only this time, there aren’t any Cubans present for the making of the Cuban coffee. Only me… the pasty white kid that needed some sun.
AJ, Dave, Ernie… I made a good batch this morning and I am drinking it all.
