It turns out it is not nonsense at all. According to this Wired article, Gratis is actually fulfilling the promises of free iPods for the masses—or at least you and your pals. That is, if you can convince five of them to sign up for the qualifying offers. I signed up and completed an offer. I ordered inks for my Canon i950 that I have been needing for a few weeks anyway. (And at a pretty good price, too!) If I can score an iPod for buying something I already needed, well, that is a big bonus. That would allow me to retire the original 1G that I received so many years ago—not that it needs retiring, it’s still going strong after all this time.
