Olliewood

Catching air

In case you haven’t been to that section, there are nine photos from a skate session at Alan Gelfand’s Olliewood.

No, I didn’t skate it… yet. I just recently started skating again and I plan on hitting some of these spots in the near future.

Hosoi Freed

Christian Hosoi

Following his release from prison on a drug conviction from 2000, Christian Hosoi takes to the sky in his home state of Hawai’i.

I predict big things from Mr. Hosoi with his renewed energy, new focus and a newfound appreciation for freedom. When Christian started skating—before he became an icon in the 80s—he skated for fun. If you look at the above photo, you can tell he remembers that.

If you’re old like me and you prefer to skate something a little bigger than a popsicle stick, support Holmes and order this board. I’m going to. I did and those bastards still haven’t shipped it. I even paid for two day shipping so it would be here by the weekend. Fuck!

Shakin’ That Stick

Penciled skull

If you compare this to the two previous entries you can definitely see that I am more comfortable with a pencil. Coincidentally, tattooing has the same feel for me as pencil or ink drawing. Maybe I would have better control over the markers on a different paper. They seem to bleed out a lot around the edges on regular paper.

I am in need of a sketchbook’like the old days. I seem to be breaking the computer dependency that has haunted me for the past few years and having a lot of fun drawing with real instruments on real paper. All analog.
