Nothing But (A) Hard Time

Sparked by a drive past Copeland Road Prison in rural Collier County, I began reading up on the state’s prisons and more specifically the story of Gary Waid. He was a Federal prisoner, a marijuana smuggler, that fell victim to some bureaucratic/political fuckmachine and wound up being transferred from Federal custody to Florida’s prison system. During his time in custody this non-violent, first time offender was actually serving his time on Florida’s Death Row for writing a letter to the Miami Herald.

Gary has written a few novels that will someday be published. He’s a very articulate, interesting man with interesting stories and I look forward to reading more.
